About
Shark Strings is a lacrosse stringing and service company built to give Australian players access to elite-level pockets and performance gear. Founded by Donnie Howard — a Division I player, Australian National Team player, and a member of the Olympic Sixes Squad — the brand was created to bring pro-caliber stringing to a rapidly growing lacrosse scene. Every pocket is strung with intention — to match a player’s position, style, and preferences for hold, release, and feel.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world — combining the speed of basketball, the physicality of football, and the strategy of hockey. After more than a century away, it’s set to return to the Olympic stage in 2028. Yet many players around the world and in Australia are still stuck using factory-strung sticks with generic setups that hold them back. A lacrosse stick is one of the most customizable pieces of equipment in sports, and many players don't even realize it. Just like a tennis racket, golf club or a pair of runners, it should fit and be built to maximize your performance.
For the game’s Native founders, the stick was considered an extension of the body and spirit. That belief still holds true today. Every player moves differently, thinks differently, and plays with their own style — and their pocket should reflect that. A stick that doesn’t match your game isn’t just uncomfortable — it limits your potential.
That’s why Shark Strings exists: to close the gap by offering mesh setups, channel designs, and shooting string configurations tailored to each athlete. Our goal is to provide Australian players with the kind of elite stringing services typically only found in the U.S. and Canada, ensuring every head is dialed in for consistency, feel, and game-readiness. Whether you’re attacking the net or locking down on defense, your stick should be more than just equipment — it should be an extension of your instincts.
Looking ahead, Shark Strings is focused on more than just stringing. Through the Shark Athletes program, we’re building a community of like-minded players who share a passion for growing the sport and pushing each other forward. These athletes help showcase elite setups, share knowledge, and inspire the next generation.
Our vision is to establish state-based hubs that offer stringing services, access to top gear, and development opportunities. From these hubs, we’ll run select camps, clinics, and workshops, giving young athletes pathways to improve their game while also preparing those with college or international ambitions.
Pocket Information
-
Whip
Whip describes how quickly the ball releases from your pocket. More whip gives you extra hold and power on shots but can make passes harder to control. Less whip gives a quicker release and more accuracy for fast ball movement.
-
Placement
Pocket placement refers to where the ball naturally sits in your head. A high pocket gives quicker releases and is great for shooters; a low pocket offers better control and cradling; and a mid pocket balances both.
-
Channel
The channel is the tightness and shape of the pocket’s center track. A well-formed channel guides the ball smoothly, adding accuracy, consistency, and extra hold. We believe this is key to a consistent stick.
